An Island You Can Only Reach by Boat, and the Boat Is Free

SULLIVAN PARK, 1633 RIVERVIEW RD, DEERFIELD BEACH · FRI-SUN · FREE

Deerfield Island Park sits in the Intracoastal just past the county line, and the only way on is the free county water shuttle from Sullivan Park on Riverview Road. It runs Friday through Sunday, on the hour from 10 AM to 3 PM, and the crossing takes about five minutes. On the island you get a mangrove boardwalk, a butterfly garden, an observation platform over the water, and picnic tables and grills if you pack a cooler. It is a designated gopher tortoise refuge, though the upland areas where they burrow are closed to visitors, so treat a tortoise sighting as a bonus. Iguanas you will almost certainly see. Parking at Sullivan Park is free once you register your plate at the kiosk, and no pets are allowed on the island. Weather can cancel the boat, so call 954-357-5100 the morning you go. The number rings Quiet Waters Park rather than the island, but they will tell you whether it is running.

Reopens Wed Aug 26 · Boynton Beach

Pig-Sty BBQ Fires Back Up on Wednesday, Inside a Live-Music Venue

THE BUNGALOW BAR & GRILL · 511 NE 4TH ST, BOYNTON BEACH · DOORS 4 PM

Pig-Sty went dark at its old Boynton Beach Boulevard location in July, and their own site now says they reopen Wednesday, August 26 inside The Bungalow Bar & Grill on NE 4th St, a Key West style bar and grill with a stage. Same owners, same smoker, same crew. The brisket, the spare ribs and the wings all survive, but the big platters are being cut in favor of sandwiches and baskets, and being a block off the water finally shows up on the menu with a smoked fish dip and a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich. Go opening day and get there at 4, when the doors open and happy hour starts.

Man Ray Is Open on Lucerne Ave: Murals, Martinis, Retro American Plates

522 LUCERNE AVE, LAKE WORTH BEACH · FULL MENU SINCE AUG 19

Rodney Mayo's Subculture Group, the people behind Dada in Delray, threw a costume gala on August 12 and started full service in downtown Lake Worth Beach on August 19. The pitch, in their own words: retro American plates with an artistic wink, 60s-inspired cocktails with a sharp modern twist, murals, martinis, and late-night discourse. The room is built around a 30-foot mural of 13 artists by Fernando Cano. The plan is for Subculture Coffee to pour at the same address from 7 AM, with the restaurant taking over later in the day. Hours are still settling, so check their Instagram before you drive over.

The Boynton Bakery With a 45-Minute Line for a Croissant

VOSARYA PASTRY · 901 N CONGRESS AVE #D106, BOYNTON BEACH

A husband and wife opened Vosarya Pastry at the Boynton Beach Promenade this summer with almost nobody watching. Then Nas of @gasolinereviewss posted about them and scored the visit a 10 out of 10, and locals started reporting 45-minute waits. The pistachio croissant is the one people come back for, and it is usually gone by early afternoon. Weekdays 10 AM to 6 PM and weekends 9 AM to 3 PM, and they close early once the case empties. There is no website and no published menu, so @vosarya.pastry is the only place to find them.

The Glimmer Cafe Team Opened a Candlelit Dining Room Across the Street

ETHEREAL · 324 NE 3RD AVE #1, DELRAY BEACH · NIGHTLY 5-11 PM

If you have ever grabbed a crepe at Glimmer Cafe on NE 3rd Ave, you already know the people behind Ethereal. Designer Nick Alain and chef Estuardo Mira opened it directly across the street at 324, and it could not feel less like breakfast: low light, romantic industrial design, doors that open at 5 PM. Ethereal does not publish its menu anywhere, so you book a table and find out what the kitchen is doing that night. Dine-in only, no delivery. Reservations on Resy or at (561) 270-2738, and call ahead if anyone in your party has an allergy.

Del Mar Comps Your Starter and Dessert If You Eat Before 5:30

1015 N RAILROAD AVE, NORA DISTRICT, WEST PALM BEACH

Walk into Del Mar on a weekday between 4:00 and 5:30, order one entree off the Early Dining menu, and the starter and the dessert both come off the bill. It is a standing menu on their own site, not a coupon, and it is weekdays only. Order the $39 half roasted chicken, add the free hummus and the free baklava, and that is a three course dinner for the price of one plate in a room where the ribeye is $71. The kitchen runs the Mediterranean coastline from Greece and Spain through Morocco and Turkey.
