You have to ring a doorbell to get into Trashe Vintage, and then ring it again to get back out. Before you even reach the door there is a hearse at the curb and a giant skeleton keeping watch over it, and the building itself is a two-story pink landmark you can spot from a block away on N Dixie Hwy, a few blocks north of Lake Ave in Lake Worth Beach. One reviewer said it is the thrift store Wednesday Addams would shop at. That is about the size of it.

What You're Getting Into

The racks run deep and specific. Clothing spans the 1920s all the way through Y2K, and it leans subculture rather than standard resale-shop fare. Shoppers pull vintage Levi's, leather jackets, old concert and band tees, platform shoes, and hats, alongside handmade and one-of-a-kind accessories you will not find at a chain thrift.

It is not all secondhand, either. The shop carries new clothing from the alternative brand Tripp and accessories from Alchemy London, so it works whether you are hunting a genuine decades-old piece or something new with the same energy. There are also records and old turntables mixed into the inventory, plus home decor and oddities scattered through the space, and custom clothing gets sewn right there in the shop.

The whole place is styled like a set. It is dim and warm and a little gothic, with a corner of curiosities that feels closer to a French Quarter apothecary than a Florida strip mall. This is a shop built for digging, not for grabbing and going, so give yourself more time than you think you need.

And you will not be browsing alone. Rusty is the resident shop cat, and by the shop's own description he is closer to a dog. He will follow you around the store until you acknowledge him, accept exactly as much petting as he has decided on, and then park himself squarely on the card reader when you try to check out.

The Insider Move

Go on a Saturday. It is the longest window of the week, noon to 7PM, and you will want the runway. Tuesday through Friday the shop runs 1PM to 6PM, Sunday is 1PM to 5PM, and Mondays are closed. The shop also asks that you call ahead before you drive out, because hours occasionally shift, and a few listings online have the Tuesday hours wrong.

Skip the street-parking guesswork. There is a dedicated lot behind the building, accessible through the alleyway, with a handicap space in it. Street parking is also open and encouraged no matter what anyone in the neighborhood tells you.

Two more things worth knowing before you walk in. All sales are final, so try things on properly rather than gambling on a size. And prices are already set as low as the shop will go, so this is not a haggling situation. Sales do happen, but they get announced on the shop's Instagram and Google page, which is the only place to catch them.

Owner Heidi Ferguson grew up in Portland, Oregon, around exactly this kind of underground shop, and opened Trashe as a new concept built on the bones of her longtime Lake Worth Beach store, Stitches & Rust.
