Soup joumou is the one thing on Casting Caribbean's menu you cannot order most of the week. The Haitian squash soup runs Sundays only, 8 am to 5 pm, and then it is gone until the next one. Diri djon djon, the black mushroom rice, keeps the same Sunday-only schedule. That single constraint is what shaped this weekend. Everything else got built around making sure you had a reason to be in Delray on a Sunday.
Here is the rest of it. Saturday the 26th through Sunday the 27th, four stops, three towns, every address below.
🥐 Breakfast: Maison Brunch, West Boca
You could drive past this one a hundred times. It sits in a strip plaza at 23064 Sandalfoot Plaza Dr, surrounded by the kind of neighbors that do not suggest a French kitchen, and inside a family is turning out croque-monsieur, quiche and crepes. The croque-monsieur is what regulars come back for, ham and cheese finished under a broiled bechamel so the top blisters. Most plates sit in the teens.
Two things to know before you go. The quiche runs small, so order a pastry alongside it rather than expecting it to carry the meal. And they are closed Mondays. Weekend hours are 9 am to 2:30 pm, a longer window than the 8:30 to 1:30 they keep Tuesday through Friday, so a slow Saturday start still works here.
🍛 Lunch: Casting Caribbean Resto, Delray Beach
The word Caribbean sends a lot of people in expecting jerk chicken and oxtail. This is a Haitian kitchen. Order it that way and you will eat very well.
Griyo is $14, marinated pork fried until the edges go crisp, and it is the one to get on a first visit. Kabrit, stewed goat, is $17. Poul peyi, Haitian chicken stew, is $14. Add pikliz for $5, the pickled cabbage and pepper slaw that cuts through all of it, or spend up on lanbi, conch, at $25. They are at 209 SE 2nd Ave, open 9 am to 9:30 pm every day, dine in or takeout.
And then there is Sunday, when the soup and the black rice come out and the menu turns into something you cannot get any other day.
🏮 Do: Asian Night Market, Downtown West Palm Beach
The anchor of the weekend and the only free thing on this list. Around forty vendors take over Nancy M. Graham Centennial Square on N Clematis Street, most of them food, running Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean and Thai street food side by side. There is karaoke, live music, and a night market to shop once you have eaten.
This is the festival's first year in West Palm Beach. Walking in costs nothing, so the entire budget is whatever you decide to eat. It runs Friday September 25 through Sunday September 27, 2 to 10 pm each day, which means it is going both days of this weekend. Downtown parking is paid, so build a garage into the plan.
🍸 End: Elevate Skye Bar, Delray Beach
Take the elevators to the roof of the Opal Grand at 10 N Ocean Blvd and the geography of Delray sorts itself out in one look: the Atlantic on one side, Atlantic Avenue lit up on the other. The menu stays deliberately light, with gulf shrimp and scallop ceviche, bbq short rib tacos, heirloom salads and a margherita flatbread, food built to sit next to a cocktail rather than replace dinner. Happy hour is 4:30 to 6:30, 20 percent off beer and wine and 10 percent off appetizers.
Two constraints matter. It is open 4 to 9 pm only, and it is open air, so weather closes the roof. Go early and check the forecast.
The Insider Move
Stack it as two days instead of cramming one. Saturday is the west-to-east day: Maison Brunch at 9, something else in the middle, then the rooftop at 4:30 when happy hour opens and the light is still good. Sunday is the food day: Casting Caribbean when the doors open at 9 for soup joumou while it lasts, then north to West Palm for the night market in the afternoon.
If you only have one day, make it Sunday. The soup and the black mushroom rice do not exist the rest of the week, and the market runs both days regardless. Everything here is walk-in except the rooftop, which takes reservations through the Opal Grand site.
What People Are Saying
Maison Brunch has a small review count doing outsized work. The croque-monsieur is what reviewers single out again and again, and those same reviews are where the warning about the small quiche came from. Elevate's reviews skew toward the staff, with regulars naming their servers, which is usually a decent proxy for a room that is run well.
Casting Caribbean is the outlier. It has almost no review footprint online at all. That is either a warning or the entire point, depending on how you feel about being early to something.
One Bit of Context
Maison Brunch opened earlier this year and is family run, with the cooking drawn from the family's own corner of France. That is the whole backstory, and it is the only part that matters: somebody's actual recipes, in a strip plaza, in west Boca.
