There is a plaza parking lot on Federal Highway in Boynton Beach where, this Saturday afternoon, a band called Girlfriend Material will play for four straight hours while the shops and restaurants around them hand out samples and run specials. There is no ticket, no gate and no cover. That is Rock the Plaza, and on August 22 it takes over Ocean Palm Plaza at 1600 N. Federal Highway from 2 PM to 6 PM.

Four hours is a long window, which means you can show up at four and still catch half of it. It also means you can build a whole Saturday around it, and we did: breakfast on Jog Road, burgers a couple of blocks from the Brightline station in downtown Boca, the plaza in the afternoon, and Slightly Stoopid on an amphitheater lawn in west Boca that same night. Here is the whole thing with addresses, hours and what to order.

Morning: Dune Deck's Mimosa Cafe, Boynton Beach

What separates this place from every other breakfast room on Jog Road is the Mediterranean streak running underneath a familiar menu. Order the eggs Benedict and it arrives the way you expect, hollandaise running, home fries on the side. Then look at the lunch half, which is available from the moment they open, and there is tzatziki, a real Greek salad, a spiced lamb burger and a filet mignon gyro. Both halves run all day, so nothing is off limits at nine in the morning.

This is a sit-down morning rather than a cheap one. Most breakfast plates land in the high teens, the specialty Benedicts climb from there, and the lobster version sits well past everything else on the board. Worth knowing before you go: published prices for this restaurant vary quite a bit depending on which site you check, so treat the board on the wall as the real one and expect a little more than the internet quotes you.

If you are drinking, skip the standard mimosa and ask for the Popsicle Mimosa, a homemade fruit popsicle standing upright in a glass of champagne, which is exactly as good as that sounds. Doors open at 7:30 AM seven days a week and the kitchen closes at 4 PM. Call (561) 742-8005 if you are bringing more than a couple of people, because the dining room is not large.

Lunch: Charm City Burger Company, Boca Raton

The patty is the whole argument here. Charm City grinds its own third-pound blend of chuck, brisket and short rib, and the entry-level Good Ole Burger with American cheese is $8.95, which is close to unheard of in downtown Boca. The Cowboy with peppered bacon, cheddar, mushrooms and grilled onions is $9.95. The Volcano brings pepper jack and pickled jalapeno for $9.75. The Forager is $10.95 on a grass-fed patty, and The Emperor is a half-pound Wagyu melt with gruyere and truffle aioli for $12.95. The Big Sloppy, a double patty with double bacon, a hash brown and a fried egg, tops the burger board at $14.95.

There is a reason those numbers hold in this zip code. The owners also run a Hallandale Beach meat wholesaler that supplies restaurants across South Florida, and they have said plainly that burgers are not where they want to raise prices. The other move nobody tells you: nearly every sandwich can be swapped off the house blend onto grass-fed, Wagyu, turkey, a veggie patty, or grilled or crispy chicken, so two people can order the same build at different price points. The Double Smash Hippie at $10.95 is the fully vegan one, with dairy-free cheddar and a vegan Charm sauce.

They are at 201 NW 1st Ave and open daily from 11 AM, two blocks from the Brightline station and three short blocks west of Mizner Park, in a 2,200 square foot building that used to be Baja Cantina. It seats 44 across the dining room and patio and has 30 parking spaces out front, against four at the Deerfield original, which is the detail that matters most on a Saturday downtown. This is the second location; the first has been a Broward institution since 2008 and this one opened January 23. Phone is 561-928-2476.

Afternoon: Rock the Plaza at Ocean Palm Plaza, Boynton Beach

The Boynton Beach CRA runs this series specifically to send people into the small businesses inside whichever plaza it lands on, which is why so many of the shops and eateries around the stage put out samples or run a discount while the music is going. Treat the plaza as half the event rather than a backdrop. Saturday, August 22, 2 PM to 6 PM, at 1600 N. Federal Highway, with Girlfriend Material playing and no admission charge.

One caution if you go looking for it online: the CRA runs Rock the Plaza at several different plazas, and Ocean Palm Plaza on North Federal is not the same place as Ocean Plaza on East Ocean Avenue. Put 1600 N. Federal Highway in your phone, not the plaza name.

Night: Slightly Stoopid at Sunset Cove Amphitheater, west Boca

Same Saturday, out at 20405 Amphitheater Circle in west Boca, AXS lists the show at 6:55 PM with The Elovaters and DENM opening. It is an all-ages lawn show, and it is the only pick of the day that costs real money. Tickets go through AXS and resale has been sitting around $90, though that number moves daily, so check before you commit.

Here is the part that makes the day work. Rock the Plaza ends at 6 and this starts at 6:55. If you leave Boynton the moment the last song finishes, you will get to Sunset Cove with time to park and walk in. It only holds together if you skip the sit-down dinner in between, which is precisely why lunch in this plan is a burger you can eat in fifteen minutes.

Both concerts are Saturday only, but the food half of this list repeats. Dune Deck's is open 7:30 AM to 4 PM every day of the week, and Charm City opens at 11 AM daily, so a slower Sunday version of this is breakfast on Jog Road and burgers downtown with nothing on the clock.
