The seared scallops come out over black truffle risotto, finished with chives and lobster butter, and regulars will tell you it is the dish they keep coming back for. That is the kind of kitchen MIA Kitchen & Bar is running on West Atlantic in west Delray, modern American food with French and Italian leanings that reviewers have called one of the best in Florida. It is about 15 minutes from Boca, at 7901 W Atlantic Ave.

The kitchen runs Tuesday through Sunday and closes Mondays, with a daily happy hour from 5 to 6.

What You're Getting Into

Start with the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio. Thin-sliced wagyu under fried capers, scallion, a sunny side egg, and truffle aioli, it is the starter that tells you what the kitchen can do before the entrees even land. From there the menu gets serious.

The Seared Scallops are the one regulars rave about, big and tender over black truffle risotto with lobster butter. The Wagyu Hanger Steak is the other anchor, plated with truffle creamed corn, asparagus, onion jam, and a port demi. Between the two you have got the whole personality of the place, rich, a little playful, and not afraid of truffle.

If you are lucky, the Truffle Shuffle Linguini is on the chef's specials that night. It comes buried under grated fresh Chilean winter truffles, chopped black truffles, and a white truffle oil sauce, and it is the plate the whole table ends up reaching for. It rotates on and off, so do not count on it until you have confirmed it.

The Insider Move

Come at 5pm. Happy hour runs daily from 5 to 6, so the first hour of dinner service is the value window for a drink before you order the big plates. Reservations are recommended and the room fills up in season, so book on Resy ahead of time. If the Truffle Shuffle Linguini matters to you, call or ask your server before you set your heart on it, since it lives on the rotating specials menu. A smart order for two: open with the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, split the Seared Scallops and the Wagyu Hanger Steak, and add the truffle linguini for the table if it is on.
