The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are flying over Fort Lauderdale Beach this Saturday and Sunday, and you don't need a ticket. Just show up, look up, and watch some of the most precise aerial flying in the world - completely free from the sand.

The Fort Lauderdale Air Show is one of the most impressive free events South Florida hosts all year. This weekend's lineup includes the Thunderbirds plus the F-22 Raptor Demo Team, which means you're watching the Air Force's two crown jewels perform in the same show. It runs noon to 3pm both days, right along A1A between 18th Street and Sunrise Boulevard.

The Insider Move: Friday Dress Rehearsal

If you want the same show with half the crowd, go Friday, May 8. The dress rehearsal is free and open to the public - same planes, same formations, far fewer people fighting for a good spot on the sand. If you have any flexibility in your schedule, Friday is the smarter call.

What You're Going to See

The Thunderbirds fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon and perform in formations so tight you'll wonder how it's legal. The F-22 Raptor Demo is a solo performance - one plane doing maneuvers that look physically impossible. Together, it's about 90 minutes of flying that genuinely makes you stop scrolling and just watch.

Getting There

Parking along A1A and surrounding streets will be brutal by noon. Get there early - 10:30am if you want a good spot - or take Uber/Lyft and skip the headache. The beach fills up fast. Bring sunscreen, water, and something to sit on. You don't need to be right at the water's edge; the planes cover a long stretch of beach and the viewing is wide open.
