It looks like a peach. It has the blush, the dimple, the soft fuzz of skin. That fake-out is what Tartelette Patisserie is known for, and this spring the French patisserie brought the trick up the road from Boca to 506 East Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.

The Experience

The showpieces are the fruit desserts, sculpted and painted to look exactly like the real thing. There is a peach, a lemon, a strawberry, a mango, each one actually a delicate mousse dessert hiding under that lifelike skin. The case runs deep past the fruit art too: macarons, classic French pastries, fresh croissants, and an expanded breakfast and lunch menu, plus specialty coffees and hot and iced matcha. The Atlantic Ave spot is a full sit-down cafe now, not just a grab-and-go window, so you can settle in with a matcha and make it a whole thing.

The Insider Move

Here is the part most people miss: on Fridays and Saturdays they stay open until 10, which makes this the move after dinner on Atlantic Ave. Skip the dessert menu wherever you ate and walk over for a fruit-art peach and a glass of prosecco instead. There is also a happy hour every day from 5 to 7 if you want to get there ahead of the evening. Prefer it quiet? Mornings are the calmest stretch and the light is best for photographing your dessert before the day picks up. Order the peach or the lemon, and add an iced strawberry matcha.
