There is a James Beard Award semifinalist sitting on a quiet stretch of Lucerne Avenue in Lake Worth Beach, about 25 minutes north of Boca. Not Miami, not Palm Beach proper, but Lake Worth Beach, which is exactly what makes it feel like a find. Most of Boca still has not made the drive.

Oceano deals in shareable plates of modern American food built from local producers, and the menu changes with whatever those producers have that week. Their line is that hospitality is "always in season," and they take it literally. Here is why it is worth planning a Thursday around.

What You're Getting Into

The format is the point. Oceano is built for sharing, a table of small and mid-size plates you order across and pass around, rather than everyone locking into a single entree. Because the kitchen sources from local farms and Florida boats and rotates with the season, the menu is not a fixed thing you memorize. It moves, sometimes day to day.

Most of the cooking comes off a wood-fired oven the Bearmans shipped in special order from Italy, which runs close to 900 degrees and gives everything that char you cannot fake. The wood-fired pizza is the one thing regulars always add to the table, and the pastas and crudos are the reliable safe bets no matter what week you go. Much of the produce comes from South Florida growers like Kai-Kai Farms, and pastry chef Cindy Bearman's desserts are worth saving room for, so do not skip them.

So the right move is not to chase a specific dish you read about online. It is to tell your server how many of you there are, ask what came in this week, and let them steer a few plates before you commit to more. The room itself is laid-back and coastal, with an open kitchen you can watch and a back patio and garden out back, the opposite of a stiff fine-dining setup. You are getting semifinalist-level cooking in a place where you can show up relaxed, and that gap, serious kitchen and easy room, is what sets Oceano apart from anything at the same level in the county.

The Insider Move

Oceano is dinner only and closed Mondays. Tuesday through Thursday it runs 5:30 to 9pm, Friday and Saturday until 9:30, Sunday until 9. Book on Resy, because this is a small, in-demand room, though they do hold a portion of tables for walk-ins each night. Go on a weeknight if you want the calmest version and the most attention from the floor, and aim for an earlier seating on Friday or Saturday, since the last tables go quickly. First move when you sit: ask what is in season right now and order a few plates to share before you commit to more. On a nice night, ask for the back patio.

What People Are Saying

When word got out that the original Lantana spot might close, the Boca Raton Magazine reviewer nearly wept, then admitted she would happily eat here every week if she lived closer. Local food writers call it "the gem of Lake Worth Beach" and argued it was the best restaurant in the county even back in its cramped old space. Recent 2026 diners keep saying the same things: best in Lake Worth by a landslide, a menu that changes every single day, and plates served family style that make the whole table fun. More than one regular has said it stacks up against the top rooms on Palm Beach, with the grilled octopus and Cindy's rotating desserts stealing the night. The 2023 James Beard semifinalist nod for Best Chef: South is the credential that backs all of it up, and it is why people drive in from across the county for a table on Lucerne Avenue.
