Some Boca spots come and go, but a few just become part of the neighborhood. Tomasso’s Pizza & Subs is one of those. It opened in 1981 at 1229 West Palmetto Park Road and has been there ever since, which means 45 years at the same address, in the same neighborhood, serving the same NY-style slices.
They bake fresh XXL pies all day and cut one-sixth slices off a 20-inch pie, which they proudly call the biggest slice in Boca. Load one up with pepperoni, meatball, and sausage and you’ll understand why East Boca locals have been ordering the same thing for four decades. It’s not complicated. That’s the point.
What You’re Getting Into
Tomasso’s is a New York-style pizzeria in the purest sense. Thin, foldable slices, generous toppings, and a crust that comes out crisp on the outside and chewy inside. The smell hits you at the door: cheese browning in a hot oven, garlic, something baking that you want immediately. The room is no-frills in the best way, with counter service and a few seats. You’re not here for the ambiance. You’re here because this is what pizza is supposed to taste like.
Beyond the pies, the menu is bigger than most people realize. The subs run from cheesesteaks to a full Italian combo, the salads are made fresh to order, and the soups, sauces, and meatballs are all made in-house. The meatballs are all-beef, made from an old family recipe, and worth ordering on their own in homemade marinara.
If it’s your first visit, grab a Pizza Popover too. It’s a pinwheel of pepperoni and mozzarella baked in a muffin cup, warmed to order, and perfect for dipping. Order two, because one is never enough. You can eat in at the counter or take a whole pie home, and most regulars go the whole pie route so there are leftovers.
The Insider Move
Go at lunch on a weekday if you want a quick in-and-out. Midday on Saturday can back up, especially in summer when the neighborhood fills with beach traffic heading down Palmetto. Call ahead if you’re feeding more than four people, because they do large party orders and the turnaround is fast. One thing to know: Tomasso’s handles its own delivery with in-house drivers and is not on any third-party apps, so order straight through their website at tomassos-pizza.com. And if you can go in person, do it. The crust on a slice straight from the oven is different from anything that rides 20 minutes in a bag.
What People Are Saying
Tomasso’s carries a 4.5 out of 5 across 656 reviews on Birdeye and a 4.2 on TripAdvisor, with more than 200 reviews on Yelp as of April 2026. The consistent thread in the long-term reviews: this place has not changed, and that’s exactly why people keep coming back.
A Little Background
Tomasso’s has been family-owned and run from the same East Boca spot since 1981, when Boca Raton was a fraction of its current size. Most restaurants that survive 45 years in Florida do it by staying exactly who they are. Tomasso’s is proof the formula works.
