West Palm's Drinking Water Comes From a 23-Square-Mile Wetland You Can Walk Into
Grassy Waters is a remnant of the original Everglades, and it's the freshwater supply for West Palm Beach, South Palm Beach and Palm Beach. The Cypress Boardwalk off Northlake Blvd is a 1-mile round trip, wheelchair and stroller friendly, with snail kites, wood storks and the odd alligator along the way. There's no fee for the trails or the nature center. Sunday hours are 8:30 to 5, and a $10 guided kayak cruise goes out Sunday Nov 8 at 10 (call 561-804-4985 to reserve). Leave the dog at home; dogs aren't allowed.

We went for dinner and here's the order. Start with Le Soufflé au Fromage, the house signature since 1972, then the mussels with fries. Ask about specials; ours was coq au vin. Finish with the lemon tart. The lychee cocktail might be the best one in Palm Beach County, and the giant jugs of fortified wine are worth a pour. Dinner runs nightly 5 to 10. Busch Wildlife is a 40-plus-year nonprofit wildlife hospital, and the public side is just under 20 acres of paved, stroller-friendly trails past the animals that live there. Give it an hour. It's open daily 10 to 4:30, no reservation needed, and admission is by donation. On Saturdays, catch a Conservation Conversation at 11:30 or 2:30 at the amphitheater.

Wood-Fired Pizza in Four 561 Towns, and $8 Martinis Every Monday
Every pie at Sicilian Oven comes out of a wood-burning oven, charred at the edges. Start with The Boss (fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, basil), then add the wood-fired wings, marinated at least 24 hours in lemon, olive oil, rosemary and garlic. Martini Monday means an $8 martini five ways, all day, and Wine Wednesday takes 50% off bottles.

The Nora Hotel opened Oct 19 on North Railroad Ave, and Pastis came with it: classic bistro fare by way of New York, a curved zinc bar, subway tile and daily specials handwritten on vintage mirrors.
