Your dog's vet probably doesn't have an oxygen chamber. Paws Veterinary Clinic, on S Jog Road in Delray Beach, does, and it's open Sundays.

The clinic puts its own pitch plainly on its site: "Big hearts. Modern medicine. Small-town feel. That's the Paws promise." The chamber is the modern-medicine half. The Sunday hours are the small-town half.

Oxygen Therapy, but for Pets

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is on the services list at a neighborhood clinic, next to laser therapy, urgent and walk-in care, wellness and preventive medicine, dental, surgery, diagnostics and imaging, allergy and dermatology care, and end-of-life care. If your dog is recovering from surgery or an injury, or your older dog has stiff mornings, ask the team which of the two therapies fits. Both are done in-house.

Get Your Dog's Teeth Checked Every Year

Up to 80% of dogs develop periodontal disease by age three, according to the clinic. The American Veterinary Medical Association says a vet should check your pet's teeth and gums at least once a year.

Paws does comprehensive dentistry: routine cleanings, full-mouth dental X-rays with every cleaning, and surgical extractions. The X-rays catch problems below the surface. Most pets go home the same day.

Book sooner if you notice:

• Persistent bad breath
• Drooling or pawing at the mouth
• Trouble eating
• Loose or discolored teeth
• Swelling around the gums or face

The Insider Move

Sunday 9 to 3 is the line to remember. Most of the week runs Monday through Saturday 8 to 5, and Sunday is the day your dog eats something he shouldn't. Call ahead to confirm walk-in availability for the day you need it.

If you've just adopted, or you've been meaning to switch vets, new clients get $50 off the first exam right now. Call (561) 566-7297 or book through pawsvc.com.

What People Are Saying

The clinic's own promise is the pitch: big hearts, modern medicine, small-town feel. The services list backs the middle claim, and the seven-day schedule backs the other two. Bring your own judgment, and your $50 off, to the first visit.
