There's a pasta on North Federal Highway that takes about as long to make as a full workday. At Casa Vera, the Paccheri Ragù Napoletano is slow-cooked over 8 hours, and the kitchen prints that number right on the menu next to the dish. The meat comes out tender, the sauce goes onto homemade paccheri (the wide, tube-shaped noodles built to hold a heavy sauce), and it's $32. If you only order one thing here, make it this.

The two lifelong friends who opened Casa Vera come from just outside Naples, so when they call the ragù Neapolitan, they mean it. Here's how to do the rest of the menu right.

What You're Getting Into

Walk in and it's bright, roomy and done up Amalfi Coast style, with a spacious back room that works for birthdays and big family dinners. It can get lively when it's full, so think fun night out rather than whisper-quiet.

Start with the pastas, because that's where this kitchen shows off. The Bucatini Cacio & Pepe ($28) keeps it simple with Pecorino Romano DOP and black pepper, and guests say it gets tossed right at your table. The Rigatoni alla Carbonara ($32) comes with crispy guanciale, egg yolk and more Pecorino Romano DOP. Reviewers keep singling out the Pappardelle alla Bolognese ($32), made with a slow-cooked veal and beef ragù, and if you're celebrating, the Fettuccine all'Astice with fresh lobster is $48.

For the table, get a pinsa. These are Roman-style pizzas fermented for 48 hours. The Margherita is $20, the Diavola brings spicy Italian salami for $22, and the Emiliana piles on prosciutto di Parma, arugula, Parmigiano and balsamic glaze for $27. Antipasti cover the classics, from calamari fritti ($22) and Puglian burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil ($22) to beef carpaccio ($24) and house-made polpette slow-cooked in tomato sauce ($20).

Still hungry after pasta? Regulars rave about the Branzino alla Mediterranea ($40), served with cherry tomatoes, olives and capers, and one returning guest said the ribeye ($48) was about as tender as steak gets.

The Insider Move

Go for happy hour. It runs Monday through Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM and Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 6 PM, with $10 cocktails like the Aperol spritz and house margarita, $8 wine by the glass and $5 beer. Pair a spritz with a pinsa and you've got an easy early dinner before the room fills in.

Two more things worth knowing. Doors open at noon Thursday through Sunday, so a long pasta lunch is on the table four days a week. And save room for dessert, because guests say the tiramisu can be made right at your table too. Parking is easy, and reviewers say there's plenty of it.

What People Are Saying

Reviews lean hard on two things: the homemade pasta and the welcome. A family who came in on a rainy Sunday in August said the pastel room made them feel like they were on the Amalfi Coast. They worked through calamari, burrata, cacio e pepe, carbonara and branzino before being surprised with a tableside tiramisu. Another guest credited co-owner Giovanni and his team with making them feel welcome every visit, and a party of 12 celebrating a birthday said the owner sent over a pinsa on the house to start.

It isn't all raves. A few diners have said it gets noisy, and one found the room too brightly lit for their taste. But the homemade pasta is the thing most reviewers single out.

The Backstory, Briefly

Casa Vera was opened by lifelong friends Giovanni Mennella and Severino Carminio, who come from Torre del Greco, just outside Naples. The name means "real house," and their house motto is "Cuciniamo con amore," which means we cook with love.
