It is 11:30 on a Tuesday night in Boca and almost everything is closed. Not this place. Lift the lid on a bamboo steamer at 818 Shanghai and the whole table leans in: soup dumplings holding their broth, turnip cakes three to an order with crisp edges and little bits of pork running through them, hoisin on the side. This is real dim sum. Not downtown, not on the water, not a Sunday-morning-only event. It is tucked into an office plaza on Glades Road near the Turnpike, and the steamers keep coming until 12:30 in the morning, six nights out of seven.

The Experience

First thing to know: you will feel like you are in the wrong place walking up. The building looks like offices, because it mostly is. Push through anyway.

Second thing to know: the room is not going to win any design awards. It has been in this plaza a long time and it looks it. What it does have is a lot of large round tables with lazy susans parked in the middle, and that is the tell. Rooms built like that are built for groups, and dim sum is a team sport.

You order off a menu here rather than flagging down a cart, which sounds less romantic but is honestly better. Nothing rolls past you and disappears. You check the boxes, everything comes out hot, and you go at your own pace. There is a dim sum menu for lunch and another for dinner, which is how the steamers are still going at an hour when the rest of Glades has gone dark.

Order wide. The xiao long bao are the signature and the thing you build the meal around. The turnip cakes are the sleeper, and the people who order them once keep ordering them. The chives and shrimp steamed dumplings come three to an order and earn their slot. So do the shrimp and scallion shumai. Then there are the scallion pancakes and the braised pork belly, which the kitchen puts front and center in its own description of itself.

Past the steamers, the menu runs deep: rice rolls, congee, mei fun and chow fun, sizzling pots, Hong Kong duck, and a full page of chef's specialties. It is a Shanghai and Cantonese lineup with the NY Chinese staples you grew up on sitting right alongside. Nobody at your table gets stuck with nothing to eat.

The Insider Move

Two things to know before you go. The first saves you money: dim sum is regular price from 11:30AM to 3PM, and after 3PM every dim sum item gets a $1 surcharge tacked on, per item. On a table working through fifteen or twenty steamers, that adds up fast. So the value play is a late lunch. Get there around 1 or 2, order the whole spread at regular price, and let it stretch.

The second saves you a wasted drive: Wednesday is the one night they close at 10PM. Every other night runs to 12:30AM. Do not be the person who shows up at 11:15 on a Wednesday. If you are bringing a real group, call ahead, because they take reservations and those big round tables go to the people who asked.

The Buzz

Word has spread the old-fashioned way, one insistent friend at a time. Jeff Eats found it in late 2025 and put it right up there with South Florida's best Chinese restaurants, calling it a must try. On Yelp, the line that keeps repeating from people who walked in craving dim sum is that it delivered. One reviewer admitted flat out they never would have found the place without a tip.

Reviews on the room and the service run hot and cold, and we will not pretend otherwise. The dumplings are what people come back for. Sit-down Chinese in west Boca is genuinely rare, dim sum that runs past midnight is rarer, and the people who know about this one are not loud about it.

Quick Context

If the address rings a bell, it should. This was Shanghai City for decades. New name, new ownership, and dim sum pushed to the front of the menu instead of buried behind it.
